On June 5, 2024 – World Environment Day – the deputy mayor of Porto, Filipe Araújo, presented the Climate City Contract as part of the VII Energy & Climate Summit, which took place at Alfândega do Porto under the theme “Decarbonization of Cities”. During the presentation, Filipe Araújo highlighted the path taken by the city of Porto to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. The contract covers investments in sectors such as energy, buildings, waste management and transport, involving both public and private organizations and citizens in building a more sustainable future. This contract not only documents the path to be followed by Porto, but also serves as an inspiration for cities around the world, being a significant step towards global and holistic environmental management.
The presentation of Porto’s Climate Contract was attended by Paulo Ferrão, member of the European Commission’s Mission Council on “Smart and Climate Neutral Cities” and President of the Center for Innovation, Technology and Policy Research (IN+) at the Instituto Superior Técnico, as well as Filipe Duarte Santos, President of the National Council for the Environment and Sustainable Development.
