The second Plenary Session of Cidades pelo Clima took place on October 28 in the Jardim da Estrela in Lisbon. This gathering, organised by the Technical Secretariat, brought together representatives from various network members for a day of work dedicated to reinforcing capabilities for climate action.
During the session, the Technical Secretariat introduced the MEM+ tool through a group activity, allowing participants to explore this platform’s potential in detail. MEM+ provides municipalities with data on greenhouse gas emissions, making it a valuable resource for informed climate action at the local level and can be accessed at MEM+. This activity enabled a deeper understanding of the tool’s practical applications and its strategic role in supporting municipal climate initiatives.
In the afternoon, the cities of Guimarães, Lisbon, and Porto — recognised with the European Union’s Mission Label for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities — presented their Climate Contracts (CCC). Each city shared key elements of its approved CCC, including commitments, action plans, and investment strategies, along with the challenges and experiences encountered in developing these initiatives.
This plenary session stood out for its exchange of knowledge and encouragement for collective action toward climate neutrality, reinforcing Portuguese cities’ commitment to a more resilient and sustainable future.
