On 7 October, IN+ (Centre for Innovation, Technology and Development Policy Research) launched a new online tool enabling Portuguese municipalities and citizens to monitor greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the country.
Named MEM+ (Municipal Emissions Monitoring), this tool provides data on annual and total GHG emissions, including figures per capita and per Gross Value Added (GVA). Users can explore emissions by sector, sub-sector, type of activity, and energy source, allowing for a detailed and comparative analysis. Accessible via https://memmais.tecnico.ulisboa.pt, the tool aims to promote greater transparency and encourage sustainable actions by providing centralised, up-to-date data on local emissions.
Developed based on the BASIC Methodology from the Global Protocol for Community Scale Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventories, the tool adheres to internationally recognised standards to ensure data robustness and comparability. With this initiative, IN+ aims to empower local authorities and the broader public to make informed decisions and promote more sustainable practices.
