On Thursday, February 6, Cidades pelo Clima held another session of the Mobility Working Group, reinforcing its commitment to the transition towards climate neutrality in Portuguese cities and regions.
During this session, participants discussed strategies for decarbonizing urban mobility, one of the key sectors in reducing emissions and building more sustainable and inclusive cities.
Key topics of the session
- Analysis of nunicipal fleets
Patrícia Baptista, coordinator of the Mobility Working Group at Cidades pelo Clima and a researcher at the Center for Innovation, Technology, and Development Policies – IN+, presented a detailed analysis of municipal fleets, based on a survey previously sent to participating cities.

The study provides a comprehensive overview of the current situation and identifies opportunities for fleet decarbonization, particularly through electrification and optimization of vehicle usage.
- Decarbonization scenarios
Participants analyzed different scenarios for the energy transition in urban mobility through a practical exercise. This exercise explored fleet electrification, public transport, and bicycle use, assessing both the advantages and challenges from the perspective of citizens and policymakers.
