The Municipality of Braga was honored with the Smart Cities Award at the 1st edition of the Forbes Green ESG Awards, held in Lisbon. This award recognizes the Braga Business Mobility Pact (PMEB) as an innovative project in promoting sustainable urban mobility solutions.
The PMEB is a joint initiative between the Municipality of Braga and BCSD Portugal, created to address environmental challenges related to urban mobility, which accounts for 65% of CO₂ emissions in the municipality. This pact establishes a collaborative model among companies and institutions, aiming to transform commuting habits and encourage more sustainable alternatives.
Since its launch, the PMEB has shown significant results. As of July 2024, 85% of the signatory entities reported implementing their planned actions, with 82% of the initial commitments fulfilled. Many organizations exceeded expectations by carrying out a substantial number of additional initiatives.
This recognition reinforces Braga City Council’s commitment to implementing sustainable policies and promoting innovative solutions to environmental challenges, establishing the city as a model of best practices in urban management and sustainable mobility.
